Green Burial: The Next Step in Green Living for Boomers

Saturday August 8, 2009

With the average financial cost of a funeral and burial at over $6,000, not to mention the ecological cost of burying tons of metal and wood caskets each year--plus enough embalming fluid to fill an estimated eight Olympic swimming pools--many people are looking for more eco- and budget-friendly ways to dispose of their final remains.

Borrowing a tradition from previous generations, baby boomers are taking green living to the final frontier with green burial. This practice, which actually began with U.S. pioneers, is gaining popularity among boomers and seniors who want to leave a living memorial, help the environment, and avoid the high costs of a funeral.

I think green burial is a lovely idea, what do you think?
