Will Obama Get $250 Checks for Seniors in 2010?

Thursday October 15, 2009

President Obama supports giving $250 checks to seniors, people with disabilities and veterans in 2010, according to a White House press release about the proposed Economic Recovery Payments. This proposal is expected to cost $13 billion and will benefit 57 million people--including 49 million who receive Social Security benefits.

These one-time payments of $250 are expected to help offset hardships that seniors and others may face because there will be no Social Security COLA (cost of living adjustment) increase in 2010, following a 2009 COLA increase that was the largest since 1982.

This is a good decision taken by the President for senior citizens. Because of heavy expenses for senior’s medical care, they are not able to live with some basic comforts. Of course, government costs may go up. But it is the duty to give some basic medical care to senior citizens. All humanists will welcome this progressive move for seniors by President Obama.
