The Resource Center program is a joint effort of the Administration on Aging and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. According to the AoA, this program "takes an important step toward meeting the AoA vision for long-term care":
- Affordable choices. These state programs are developed to provide affordable choices and options that promote independence and dignity for individuals.
- Consumer control. The goal is to increase control that consumers have in the design and delivery of the programs and services that affect their lives.
- Empower people. By making nformation more readily available, consumers will be empowered to make informed decisions.
- Easy access to support. These state programs are designed to make support more available for a range of health, long term care and environmental options.
- Focus on family caregivers. The unique needs of family caregivers will be given special attention.
- Highest quality available. A key goal is to assure consumers and their loved ones that they are are getting the highest quality care available.
By October 2005, the Health and Human Services Department had awarded grants to 41 states and two territories that will support state efforts to develop Aging and Disability Resource Centers.
