Censorship in the Retirement Community
Retirement community residents are willing to toe the line for cheesecake

Retirement Community Censorship Started with a Joke
Two senior ladies are having a discussion.

"Shirley I am getting tired of hearing all this discussion about Mutual Orgasms. Oprah…Dr. Phil…my soaps. Shirley, when your Sam was alive did you have Mutual Orgasms?”

"No, we had Mutual of Omaha.”

That old joke got me into deep trouble with Mrs. Himmler. She was president of the Homeowners Association, and she runs this retirement community with quick punishment for all offenders.

I told that joke at a variety show we did, and she came back stage in a rage. "How could you offend the audience with something so vulgar?” she asked harshly. We received the ultimate penalty. "Four weeks, no Bingo," she said.

My wife wept. Accused me of being cruel and unthinking.

For Some Retirement Community Residents, Cheesecake Makes It All Worthwhile
Our retirement community puts up with her because every Thursday evening, when Bingo is held, she brings the most delicious cheesecake imaginable. She is office for her second term, re-elected because her campaign slogan was: IF I AM NOT ELECTED, NO MORE CHEESECAKE. She won in a landslide.

I don't understand why the joke was a problem. There was no one in that retirement community audience under the age of 55, most had grandchildren and some had great-grandchildren. It wasn’t as if I was speaking of the unknown.

When I reminded Mrs. Himmler that she was from Kansas, and asked her if no one had sex in Kansas, she started getting angry again. I thought about the cheesecake, so I left.

I saw her the following Saturday night at the movie complex, taking names of those not attending the G-rated movie. Not too many names, but a lot of disguises.
